An SME owner and M&A advisor reviewing the future of a manufacturing business
About Tokyo Venture Capital

The future of an SME should not be limited by the size of its network.

We help founder-led businesses grow, transition, and connect with strategic buyers across Japan and the world—without losing the people, knowledge, and purpose that made them valuable.

01 / OUR ORIGIN

Why we started

Exceptional companies are often invisible beyond their home market.

We saw strong SMEs with loyal customers, specialist capabilities, and generations of know-how facing a simple constraint: the right partner was outside their immediate network.

At the same time, serious buyers were searching for precisely those businesses—but lacked local context, trusted introductions, and the operating support needed to execute across borders.

TVC exists to close that distance. We combine local relationships with institutional-quality M&A preparation so a founder’s life work can become another company’s strategic future.

We do not make SMEs look bigger. We make their real value visible to the right market.

Our philosophy

Growth with dignity.
Execution with discipline.

Our role is not to push a transaction into existence. It is to create the conditions in which the right transaction can be understood, trusted, and completed.

01

SMEs deserve room to grow

Founder-led businesses create jobs, knowledge, and resilience. We help them access the strategic capital, buyers, and partnerships their local network alone may not reach.

02

Trust comes before the transaction

The best opportunities rarely begin in a data room. They begin with listening, discretion, and years of local relationships with owners, operators, and advisers.

03

Confidentiality is infrastructure

A company’s identity, people, and reputation must be protected at every stage. We design outreach and information release around control—not exposure.

04

A deal must work after closing

Price matters, but so do governance, culture, continuity, and integration. We measure success by the strength of the business that continues after ownership changes.

Who we serve

Built for the people who built the business.

SME owners rarely describe their challenge as “an M&A problem.” They talk about succession, expansion, a new factory, a partner for the next market, or protecting the team through a transition.

We begin there. Then we translate the business into the language of strategic value without stripping away the local reality that makes it work.

  • Founder and family-business succession
  • Strategic growth capital and partnerships
  • Japan and ASEAN market entry by acquisition
  • Partial, majority, and full ownership transitions
02 / LOCAL DEAL ORIGINATION

How we source local deals

Proprietary access begins with being present.

Databases tell you what has already been published. Local relationships help reveal what may become possible—and what it will take to earn the owner’s trust.

01

STEP 01 · Listen in-market

Local conversations reveal the real opportunity.

Our country teams stay close to founders, accountants, lawyers, associations, and corporate networks. That proximity reveals succession needs and growth ambitions before they become public processes.
What this createsGround-level context, not database assumptions

Industry expertise

We learn the operating logic before we speak about valuation.

A buyer is acquiring more than financial statements. They are acquiring capabilities, people, licenses, customer relationships, routes, reputation, and the right to keep building.
